Yesterday, I urged our consulate in Côte d’Ivoire to immediately contact the relevant local authorities to find out the reasons behind the failure to release engineer Cocco, who was scheduled to be released last Friday.
The situation of imprisoned Italians around the world is not a political issue but a human one. We are close to the Cocco family and will do everything to bring him home. Give a fair trial to those who did not get it, free the innocent and, as far as permitted by international law, let those convicted abroad serve their sentences in Italy.
