Di Giuseppe (Fd’I), thanks to government reopening terms for repurchase Rome, 07 May – (Agenzia_Nova) – ‘The amendment for the repurchase of citizenship was approved for Italians who lost it before 1992. With this act we remedy one of the wrongs of our Republic perpetrated against Italians abroad, depriving them of their citizenship. Thousands of our compatriots had been waiting to get their real passports back for more than 30 years.”. This was stated by Andrea Di Giuseppe, the only Fratelli d’Italia deputy elected abroad, in commenting on the government amendment presented at his urging which reopens the terms for regaining citizenship. “From my electoral campaign, I pushed for this project to be realized – continues the parliamentarian -. I received hundreds of letters from our compatriots asking to be allowed to die as Italians. In over 30 years only words have been said, too many have exploited the dreams of these people for electoral purposes without ever doing anything. Today, those same people try to get on the bandwagon, but they should be ashamed. The government and Giorgia Meloni immediately demonstrated great sensitivity and attention to this issue, immediately supporting my bill, the first made in this sense in December 2022, and approving my agenda for the reopening of the terms. I also thank Legislative Chief Soliman and the entire Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for giving this issue its well-deserved importance’.
