The Rome Court’s ruling Press Review
Justice is done. The Rome Court’s ruling, reported today by the press, highlights a very serious case related to corruption and visa trafficking in Bangladesh: four convictions and fines totaling over €600,000.
I have long brought to the attention of the competent authorities elements that indicated an unacceptable system: visas “sold” at very high figures and a mechanism that risked fueling illegal immigration and distortions in the labor market. This ruling confirms that these were not isolated incidents, but a system.
I thank the Guardia di Finanza for their investigative work and commitment on the ground, and lawyer Antonio Di Pietro for his support in this battle for legality.
And let’s be clear: it doesn’t end there. What is emerging suggests that there is still much to clarify and that more will come out. They had tried to bribe me with a 2 million Euro bribe. I will continue to be vigilant and do my part to ensure that the visa system is rigorous, transparent and impervious to criminals and unfaithful officials.
Legality and the protection of honest citizens come first.
