I did not talk in Parliament about a tax.
I talked about who we are. At home. Of Italy.
I talked about millions of Italians living far away,
but who wake up every morning still feeling deeply Italian.
With this speech I wanted to say something simple, but huge:
Italians abroad are not second-class citizens.
Their home in Italy is not a whim, it’s not a luxury:
It’s a bond, a memory, a family story that no one has the right to tax as if it were a privilege.
Behind every closed door there is a grandfather who left with a suitcase and a dream,
there is a son who returns every summer to hug his grandparents again,
there is a community that has never stopped, not for a second, feeling like Italy.
Paragraph
Today, with this step, the State finally says:
“I see you. I recognize you. I respect you.”
Because Italy is great thanks to its Italians,
to those who remained,
to those who left,
to those who will return…
…and to those who, even living far away,
they never really left. 🇮🇹❤️
