Last night the Government approved my agenda for the Budget Law (n. 138). A step that I consider to be a step of justice towards millions of Italians abroad. 🇮🇹
The vow is sacred. It is the voice of every citizen. And precisely for this reason we can no longer accept that, outside national borders, that voice is exposed to doubts, vulnerabilities and injustices.
The mail-in voting system today leaves room for too many critical issues: the risk of fraud, lost or intercepted packages, and above all, a question no one should ever ask themselves in front of a ballot box: “Who really voted?”
And while reports of irregularities are growing, the State is spending around 60 million euros per consultation, resources that end up also weighing on the budgets of our Consulates.
With this ODG, I have achieved a clear commitment: overcoming postal voting, to arrive at a physical, transparent, and controllable model, with polling stations in embassies and consulates or areas guaranteed by them, as is already the case with European elections in EU countries.
Because democracy can’t be “half” depending on where you live.
Italians abroad deserve the same respect, the same protection, the same certainty.
🗳️ More guarantees for the voter. More control over procedures. More seriousness in the use of public funds.
My commitment in Parliament continues: because the vote of Italians abroad must be free, safe and without shadows. 🇮🇹
