In the early nineties I was in the Balkans during the initial phase of the war that led to the dissolution of Yugoslavia. A genocide characterized by ethnic cleansing, innocent victims and common graves that brought to mind the horror of the deaths and massacre of Italians in Istria and Dalmatia. For me, those lands are still Italian and I consider it shameful and ignoble that the left continues to lack respect for the victims, do not firmly condemn those massacres and deny the shameful treatment that the Italian communists reserved for our exiles. I attended with emotion and pride the commemoration that was held yesterday in Vicenza.
