Last July 23, I had the pleasure of participating in the Geopolitical Talks organized by Comin & Partners, dedicated to “Trump’s United States. A first assessment of challenges and opportunities”.
A high-level comparison with the Hon. Vincenzo Amendola, Mario Sechi, and Professor Giulio Sapelli, moderated by Financial Times journalist Giuliana Ricozzi, on one of the most important topics for understanding the new balance of power in the world.
The message I wanted to share is simple: Trumpism will outlive Trump.
For too long we have thought that it is economics that drives geopolitics. Today the opposite is happening: geopolitics drives the economy.
National security, industrial policy, energy independence, control of strategic supply chains and protection of the national interest have returned to the centre of State decisions. For this reason, the Trump phenomenon goes far beyond the figure of the President: it is the expression of a profound change in American society and a new international balance destined to last.
As an Italian and a European I would hope that this new phase will above all be a stimulus for Europe: less bureaucracy, more competitiveness, more innovation and a greater ability to decide quickly.
The world is changing. We can undergo its change or have the courage to interpret and guide it.
Sincere thanks to Comin & amp; Partners for the invitation and for promoting such a high-level debate.
