Four years. Not a simple anniversary on the calendar like so many other dates that have become historic days for the achievements of this legislature, but a political transition that defines an era: from today, the government led by Giorgia Meloni is officially the longest-running in the history of our Republic.
In a nation historically accustomed to fragmentation and government formulas born for mere survival, the stability demonstrated by this coalition represents a positive break with the unprecedented past. As the Prime Minister emphasized, continuity is not a trophy to be boasted of, but the indispensable tool for giving Italy vision, seriousness, and authority.
For those like us who come from far away, this milestone has even more significance profound, because we remember well where we started: when Brothers of Italy was a political force just over 4%, considered marginal and forced to climb back up the slope against everything and everyone, we swallowed toads, worked hard in the territories and made sacrifices that only our community knows how to get here. And it is almost paradoxical to see today from the opposition who for thirty years has occupied power, alternating technical governments and palace understandings that have left economic and social rubble, allowing themselves to moralize instead of making a self-criticism about combined disasters.
The employment figures, the focus on the productive fabric, the solid management of public finances, and Italy’s newfound international prominence are the direct result of this linearity of vision. It is no coincidence that the three longest-serving governments of the Republic all belong to the history of the center-right: their duration is the natural consequence of shared values, not of palace agreements made solely for the purpose of waging war on the adversary, blocking the path of those who seriously want to respond to the needs of citizens.
As an MP elected in the foreign constituency, I can directly testify to how this stability translates into respect and credibility outside our borders. For millions of Italians around the world, a solid and lasting government finally means a strong nation to which we can refer, capable of enhancing our economic, cultural, and human network globally and restoring pride to our communities abroad. This is clearly demonstrated by the congratulations from figures such as Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who underline President Meloni’s excellent leadership in the wake of historic ties of cooperation and friendship and confirm the commitment to further consolidate international strategic partnerships such as the one with the United Arab Emirates, thanks also to the diplomatic work carried out impeccably by Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara, which with determination and professionalism continues to strengthen this fundamental axis of cooperation and friendship.
The credit for this journey goes to the coalition’s cohesion, but above all to the pact of trust reached in 2022 with citizens, in Italy and around the world. A pact that we do not consider guaranteed and that we continue to honor every day with responsibility.
In Bari, together with the Brothers of Italy community, we took stock of the work done and charted the course for the next steps. The path continues, with concreteness, seriousness and a clear vision of the future of our Nation.
