The attack on Donald Trump leaves us speechless: an attack on democratic institutions that takes us back to the 1981 attack against Ronald Reagan. We must thank the secret service and the local police, rally around the family of the deceased and pray for the injured. This act of political violence is an attack not only on the republican world but also on the freedom of all citizens of the United States, regardless of political color. Unfortunately, the climate of hatred caused by hatred towards the future president of the USA has led to this situation and the political responsibilities are evident. There is no place in a democracy for such violence and there is no place in the United States for such violence towards a presidential candidate.
I don’t wish Donald a speedy recovery because he’s already up and doesn’t need it. He is more combative than ever, ready to defend the interests of democracy.
