The regulatory intervention “which we will vote on [May 20] will put an end to the malfeasance and opportunism that have led to a suspected release of millions of citizens in recent years. In the same provision, taking as a reference my approved agenda on the subject, a historic amendment was introduced by the government which will reopen again the terms of regaining citizenship for our compatriots who were forced to renounce it in 1992, when it was not provided for double passport’. This was stated by Andrea Di Giuseppe, the only Di Fratelli d’Italia parliamentarian elected abroad, regarding the decree law on citizenship. “Over the years – continues the deputy – many people have benefited from legislation that has allowed them to obtain, by exploiting in some cases unclear situations, Italian citizenship without having any identity link with our country. I first reported this situation, after a bribery attempt, receiving death threats and ending up under guard.”
