Fake visas, national security, and Italian labor: now the state must go all the way.
The arrest of the former Italian ambassador to Uzbekistan, as part of the investigation into visas issued to Russian citizens with documentation deemed false, is a very serious matter.
But it’s not a bolt from the blue.
I have long been reporting to the competent prosecutors the existence of an opaque and dangerous system linked to the illicit issuance of Italian visas. I didn’t do it to seek visibility, but because when you touch access to our country, you’re not talking about bureaucracy: you’re talking about national security.
I thank the Guardia di Finanza for their work, for the seriousness of the investigation, and for demonstrating once again that the State, whenever it wants, knows how to get to the bottom of it.
Every fake visa is not just an irregular document. It’s an open door with no control. It is a risk for citizens. It is a detriment to Italy. It is a wound to the credibility of our institutions.
And there is another theme that many pretend not to see: the work of Italians.
When someone enters through illegal channels, when the system is altered, when the rules are bought, falsified, or circumvented, it is also Italian workers, honest businesses, those who respect the law, and those who build their future without shortcuts who pay the price.
Italy must be open to those who arrive legally, work honestly, and respect our rules. But it must be very tough on those who turn visas into goods, embassies into private counters, and the civil service into a personal affair.
The real question is simple: how is it possible that for twenty years no one has seen anything? Nobody reported anything? Didn’t anyone really want to open this Pandora’s box?
I will continue to do so. Without going back a millimeter.
Because this is not a personal battle. It’s a battle for the state, for national security, and for Italians who respect the rules.
And now on.
Let’s move on to the next dossier. Because unfortunately we are only at the beginning…
