In 1992, Italy imposed the renunciation of passports for those who had acquired citizenship in different circumstances, a measure that profoundly affected the Italian community abroad. Today, however, Fratelli d’Italia is the spokesperson for the desire to right a historical wrong, with the support of elected representatives in the communities of Central and North America. The recent approval of a government amendment allows compatriots who had lost their citizenship to be able to regain it.
